Sugary drinks can increase a person's risk for metabolic syndrome by up to 20%.<br />A review of data from 13 previous studies warns against consuming large amounts of fructose, or fruit sugar.<br />Metabolic syndrome is a group of conditions including high blood pressure, elevated blood sugar, and excess body fat.<br />According to UPI, the syndrome also includes increased cholesterol and triglyceride levels.<br />Collectively, these conditions increase your risk for Type 2 diabetes and heart disease.<br />Not all sources of fructose are harmful. Consumption of yogurt and fresh fruit doesn't carry the same risk.
